Youngsters make mini windmills

SCHOOLCHILDREN have been taking part in an art project.

Involved in the Rochford Arts Council Sails Wind Project were pupils from the Fitz Wimarc School. The school in Hockley road was visited by Artist Nicola Burrell last Friday and worked with the Year 9 pupils on a variety of activities. One exercise was the development of designs for public sculpture and making models of the Rayleigh Windmill.

The school’s head of art, Mark Hardman, said: “The pupils worked tirelessly with artist Nicola Burrell to create large semi-abstract sculptures based on the workings of windmills. Some basic constructional techniques were demonstrated by Nicola using simple corrugated cardboard and glue guns.

“The artists then worked in small groups to create some imaginative, vibrant and wonderfully creative sculptures, which will be displayed in the school until after Easter 2009.
