Vestas 3.3MW Turbines for Izmir Wind Farm in Turkey

Giant Dutch manufacturer Vestas has clinched an order for 33 megawatts of wind turbines for a wind project in Izmir, Turkey.

The order for the Fuat RES wind farm will consist of 10 wind turbines that have a power production capacity of 3.3 MW each. The plant is part of a project developed by Borusan EnBW Enerji, a joint venture between German utility EnBW and Turkey-based holding company Borusan.  10 V112-3.3 MW turbines will be used:

The Fuat RES wind power plant will be installed in the city of Izmir on the west coast of Turkey. Delivery

of the project is expected to occur in the final quarter of 2014 with commissioning in the second quarter of

2015. Operations will follow this. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a patent VestasOnline® Business SCADA system, as well as a five-year full-scope service agreement.

The wind power plant will have an estimated annual production of more than 112,000

MWh per year, saving the environment from over 51,500 tons of CO2 emissions on an annual basis. It will provide enough electricity to cover the residential electricity consumption of more than 185,000 people in Turkey.

Vestas has a considerable history in Turkey. It has been operating there for the last three decades- in 1984 it installed the country’s first wind turbine. Since then, Vestas has delivered 664 MW of wind power capacity to Turkey. In January 2008, Vestas

established an office in Istanbul and now has no fewer than three warehouses and service locations in the country.

Borusan EnBW intends to expand Turkey’s electricity generation capacity by 2,000MW by 2020, primarily in the renewable energy sector, including wind.
