An Unprecedented Wind Power Project

Michael Polsky, CEO & President of Chicago-based Invenergy, is increasingly becoming a figurehead of global wind power innovation. Having recently teamed up with American Electric Power (AEP), this powerhouse duo has today announced the development of what is set to be the US’s largest wind farm. Located in Oklahoma’s blustery Panhandle plains, this project is set to generate power for 800,000 homes across Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

Polsky, with almost 30 years of experience in the energy industry under his belt, is ever-increasing his prestige. Originally founding SkyGen in 1991 and going on to develop what has only been regarded as one of the most successful teams in the independent energy sector, he divested the company to Calpine for a smooth $450 million dollars.

His most recent project, the Oklahoma Panhandle wind farm, which is set to cost $3.5 million, is a clear indication of positive global confidence in an ever-expanding wind energy sector. The recently Published Berkely lab report has established targets for many Southern American states, urging them to increase renewable energy generation by 50% over the next 13 years.

Previously a predominantly coal-fired utility, AEP’s announcement of this project has also highlighted the global shift towards greener solutions. Melissa McHenry spokeswoman for AEP, collaborators with Invenergy, has recently stated;

“We’re increasingly hearing from customers large and small that they want additional clean energy resources. We have largely been a coal-fired utility. Now, we have additional resources proving to be cost-effective so we’re investing in those resources and in this particular wind power project.”

In the political environment of today’s US, where it may first appear that focus is being directed away from climate-based science innovation. This unprecedented wind-energy project looks to be paving the way for further green-energy investment and defies the critics of global wind innovation.
