Can I pay with a Letter of Credit?

This depends solely on the seller if he accepts an LC (Letter of Credit) as a payment method. Strictly speaking, the used and second-hand wind turbines market is a 'cash payment only' market and the standard method of payment is generally expected and in most cases, the only option accepted by sellers is by the bank to bank transfer.

In some cases, a seller may accept an LC as payment but as there are a number of different types of LC's on offer by many international banks, usually a seller, if he is prepared to accept an LC payment method, will insist on a so-called 'Irrevocable LC' is being used. As the setting up and receiving funds through an LC payment is often a very time-consuming process for both seller and buyer as well as the requirement to involve a number of other third parties, sellers may ask to charge an extra flat fee to be paid on top of the purchase price. This can vary from demands for administration costs only up to several thousand of € EUR more.

LC payment method is usually only a common and standard method of payment and widely accepted is for transactions for purchases of brand new equipment purchased from a manufacturer. LC payment is in most cases not a common or acceptable payment method for used or second-hand wind turbine purchases. However, we recommend informing your seller as early as possible that you would like to pay by LC and if he would consider avoiding for both parties to waste unnecessary time in negotiating or spending money on travel costs for inspections, etc. Just ask but do not be surprised that you will receive an abrupt short 'No' as an answer.

Please also consider that offering a seller to pay by LC, that could put you at a disadvantage if you are bidding on a popular item and the seller has a number of offers from other interested buyers to choose from. Cash buyers always have an advantage and are always preferred by sellers, for obvious reasons.
