New Windmills Coming As Old Ones Are Still Disputed

In Stoneycreek Township – Somerset County, the push by the local county for cleaner energy continues but local residents are not pleased at all and are pushing right back. The fact that more windmill turbines are going to be erected in Somerset and Blair counties is stirring up some heated debates.

The plan is that thirty-five new turbines will be going up in Stoneycreek Township in Somerset County. These are thought to be set up along Route 30 near the Reels Corners. Two companies have received approval for the construction which will take approximately seven months to complete. The two major players in this are E. ON Climate and Renewables Inc.

The farm is said to be spreading into Allegheny and Shade townships. This is not far from Shaffer Mountain, where a continued lawsuit continues is stopping Gamesa from putting wind turbines there.

There are currently more lawsuits and this is not the only legal dispute. A Juniata Township couple in Blair County is making progress in their lawsuit against Gamesa and the Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm. There, a judge recently upheld civil charges against both companies. The claim of the couple is that the windmills on Blue Knob Mountain are too noisy and cause light to flicker in their home.
