Google receives new patent for wind power and sea power generation

It just came to light that Google won a new patent: A sustainable powered, floating data center. The platform is to sit 3 to 7 miles offshore in seas at least 200 feat deep. Its power will be generated either by wind turbines or by water, i.e. sea powered generators.

Google has been under immense pressure due to its ever increasing power demand for its processors for Google and the ever more popular Youtube. This could mean that Google is trying to come up with a combination with one of their previous inventions, their patented modular data centres that are running from within shipping containers, which became reality in 2005 and the rapidly advancing wind and sea power technologies.

Wave generators have already been developed and installed by Pelamis and are based off the shore of Portugal.

More cool points and particularly good karma for Google!
