Clearing and construction at the site began at the end of last year (see picture above) and will be built out over two phases. NGP Texas has brought together a team of industry leaders in order to successfully complete all elements project in as quicker time as possible.

Ania Kuna (pictured below) is the Executive Vice President of NGP Texas. She said:

“The GE brand is one of the most highly regarded in the wind industry. We are pleased to announce our selection for GE to supply 235 turbines model GE 1.7-103 and related services for the 400MW Texas Wind Project. Evaluating project risk and performance upfront is critical. GE’s wealth of experience and sophisticated technology proves to have world-class efficiency and power output to ensure project success. GE is instrumental in building a better quality project that our clients will benefit from directly.”

GE performed a mechanical loads analysis (MLA) in order to determine the stability of the chosen wind turbines for the project. The collection of diagnostic data found that the GE 1.7-103 turbines were an ideal fit to produce an optimum power output.

These GE wind turbines are three-bladed, upwind, horizontal-axis wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 103 metres. The large rotor and advanced design with a hub height of 80 metres will help deliver optimum energy output.

Keith Longtin, General Manager of GE’s wind products said:

“Since 2002, GE is proud to have invested more than $2 billion in research & development for renewable energy. We are thrilled to work with NGP Texas on 400MW Texas Wind Project and supply them with our advanced technology 1.7-103 wind turbine.”

The 400MW Texas Wind Project is being fast-tracked and is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2015 to qualify for  US PTC (Production Tax Credit).
