Building My Own Small Wind Turbines Saves Money Every Day

A personal letter from Tim Barrett – Manchester, New Hampshire – USA

Have you ever thought of generating your own free energy using wind power? Then this personal letter might interests you as Tim Barrett is going to share his own personal experience with you. To start with, he’ll give you a rundown of the problems that he ran into during his first project and then share with you the brilliant solution he had found that actually worked.

See for yourself!

Tim Barrett’s letter:

“Most homeowners like myself always wonder how much power is being used in my house and more specifically, how much energy I am actually wasting each month. The reason behind this, of course, is that my direct debit payments to my local electricity provider got bigger and bigger each month, especially during the winter month”.

My Family Drove Me Crazy!

I repeatedly caught myself cruising through the house finding lights and applications to switch off in empty rooms which my wife, kids or visitors had left switched on after leaving the rooms. I did so to such extent that my family started to call me a greedy weirdo and asked me if I had nothing better to do than hunting switches to turn off. However, I could tell my kids or my wife over and over again and remind them to switch off the lights, the radio, the TV, the play station, the stereo, the PC, the table lamp, the what ever…. you name it, they would just not listen and felt that I was getting completely ignored. Of course, they ignored my requests, to no surprise they are not the ones who are paying the bill! They were driving me crazy, to say the least!

I had to realize that no amount of effort of trying to control energy usage in our home would be enough to keep the electricity bill to a minimum. Does this sound familiar to you or do you find yourself in the same situation? Then keep on reading.

I realized that none of my efforts would enable me to keep our monthly electricity bill under control so I decided to take a completely new approach to the matter. I have heard through a friend about self-generated energy for homes and figured that if I’d somehow managed to produce my own free electricity, I wouldn’t need to worry about our electricity costs ever again. A wonderful thought which manifested itself in my head as more I thought about it.

Into Action

I first browsed through our local business directory and was amazed to find how little firms were listed which are actually specialized in the home generating energy solutions. I selected one small local firm and one larger wholesaler with a base near Manchester to contact and inquire about the cost of investment to get my dream realized…..this was not long before I got my first shock. The wholesaler’s cheapest windmill systems started from $18,000 which didn’t even include the costs of installation which I was quoted would come to $1,800 – $2,000. To make matters worth, they would only provide a 3-year warranty on parts and insisted that they would only grant technical warranty if the system was installed by one of their approved installation contractors. Thanks but no thanks I thought.

The local supplier offered a free of charge technical post-sale service for a period of six months but of course, with a small company’s tiny purchasing power, his ‘special offer’ system came to $24,000…. I found myself again in a no-win situation as my budget was nowhere near a 5 digit $ sum… my dreams to generate my own energy faded fast. The local electricity board was still my master’s.

Sure, one of their ‘complete’ systems on offer would crunch my power bill to zero and even with given time and enough power to sell back excess to the local electricity board, the return of investment would take several years and required an initial investment I just didn’t have at my disposal.

Then I looked at available DIY classes and DIY books and carried out some in-depth investigations. The result was that I surely learned much about the whole topic and started to become somewhat of a specialist but I could just not find a self-build solution that would suit my budget.

By pure chance, I came across the Eart4 Energy guide and found that: IT’s TOTAL RUBBISH! Stay well clear of purchasing this online guide
